Product Overview
Wandelbots NOVA is a unified software platform for industrial robot automation. Wandelbots NOVA includes:
- Wandelbots NOVA OS: a robot-agnostic operating system for controlling and standardizing automation cells.
- Wandelbots NOVA Developer Tools: a toolkit for agile software development.
- Wandelbots NOVA cloud functionalities and deployment: management of users and robots, cloud deployment options, consumption-based features.
The Wandelbots NOVA platform is designed for organizations seeking greater efficiency, flexibility, and adaptability in their automation landscape. It follows a software-first approach built on modern technologies.

Control for Robot Arms of ABB, KUKA, FANUC, Yaskawa, and Universal Robots; based on the proprietary individual interfaces of the robot OEMs.

Wandelbots provides a set of tools to enable software developers to build on top of the Wandelbots NOVA platform. The tools are meant for modern development environments, specifically Python and TypeScript.

Command Line Interface (CLI) tool for managing Wandelbots NOVA OS, including app deployment and configuration

Wandelbots NOVA Cloud extends Wandelbots NOVA Operating System with a centralized management layer for the scalable operation of Wandelbots NOVA OS deployments on the shop floor. These cloud functionalities deliver transparency and control for the productive use of Wandelbots NOVA OS, e.g. via roles and permissions, fleet management.
Wandelbots NOVA Cloud Deployment Services
Wandelbots provides cloud-hosted components and functionalities of the Wandelbots NOVA Software as described below (“Cloud Deployment Services”).
The specific scope, functionalities and deployment model of the Cloud Services are defined in the offer and in this Product Description.
Details are agreed between Wandelbots and Customers. Service levels, availability commitments or response times for the Cloud Deployment Services shall apply only if and to the extent expressly agreed in writing.
Environment
Wandelbots NOVA is designed as a microservice-platform composed of multiple solutions components, as outlined below:
The Wandelbots NOVA Operating System is deployed in an edge Kubernetes cluster running on a bare metal Alma Linux with a real-time kernel enabled.
Wandelbots NOVA Cloud and the NOVA Developer Tools are provided via Kubernetes and can be deployed in a managed shared-tenant, managed dedicated-tenant or customer-managed cloud environment.
The infrastructure leverages:
- Programming interfaces: REST, WebSocket with an OpenAPI Spec
- A web-based user interface for admins, developers and users
- NATS messaging for real-time communication
- Microsoft Entra ID for authentication and authorization
Usage Preconditions and Requirements
General aspects
For using Wandelbots NOVA a valid license and creating a user account is necessary (user account via existing GitHub account or creating a new account in NOVA Developer Tools).
A stable internet connectivity is required for activation and usage of particular product functionalities.
License management requires stable internet connectivity of Wandelbots NOVA OS during License activation/deactivation, renewals, or other changes.
TCP/IP connected environment within the robot cells is mandatory.
TCP/IP connected environment within the shop floor environment, outside the cells is highly recommended.
Up-to-date web browsers are required to access User Interface of Wandelbots NOVA.

Customers are responsible for the hardware which is required to use Wandelbots NOVA. Please note: Wandelbots NOVA is supported only on x86-based infrastructure.
Third Party Requirements
- The download and use of Wandelbots NOVA requires the use of certain third party (incl. open source) components and software.
- Some of these third party software requirements are listed here:
- For using Siemens PROFINET, individual license requirements and agreements of Siemens must be observed by Customers. Please note Wandelbots NOVA does not include specific licenses for PROFINET.
- For using NVIDIA Isaac Sim, individual license requirements and agreements of NVIDIA must be observed by Customers. Please note Wandelbots NOVA does not include specific licenses for NVIDIA Isaac Sim.
Further Technical Requirements
Further technical requirements may apply and are within the sole discretion of Wandelbots.
